Press Release: South Florida Businessman Scott Fuhrman Launches Campaign for Congress

Fuhrman: District 27 Incumbent Part Of Problem; Helps Keep Right Wing Party In Control of Congress

Miami, Fla. – After running the most competitive race against incumbent Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen in nearly three decades, fourth generation Miamian and businessman Scott Fuhrman today announced the start of his 2018 campaign. He pledged to bring representation that reflects our community’s true values to Washington and to run a campaign of substance, inspiration and hope during these turbulent times. Scott Fuhrman is a husband, a father of two daughters and an owner of the Florida Bottling Company, which since 1956 has bottled fruit and vegetable juices under the Lakewood Organic brand from their Miami location.

Scott Fuhrman shared, “I’ve listened to heart-wrenching stories from families across our community who are desperate to see a change in Washington, D.C. I have decided to resume this fight because many of our neighbors are living in fear, and a record number worry that their government is looking out more for well-connected insiders rather than for families like theirs. Meanwhile, my opponent, a longtime incumbent who has lost touch with the needs of her constituents, has shown again and again that she would rather side with D.C. insiders and party leaders over restoring ethics to our nation’s capital. Her recent attempts to moderate her positions to align with our changing district smack of desperation and political expediency.”

Fuhrman said today, “Representative Ros-Lehtinen began this session of Congress by voting to undue ethics reform in Congress, preferring instead to continue governing in opacity. When our county Mayor turned his back on thousands of families across our community, Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen couldn’t be bothered to stand up and challenge the Mayor on his efforts to target immigrant families.”

Fuhrman added, “I will be the voice for families across Miami-Dade who are united in saying that the time has come for change in District 27. I am running for Congress because when it comes to standing up for the needs of our community and speaking truth to power, I have proven that I will never back down from a fight that is worth fighting. Our current Representative spent the last eight years supporting Speaker Ryan’s efforts to undermine health care and the middle class. Now, she’s passively watching as President Trump and his lieutenants endeavor to destroy our environment and erode our civil rights.”

Scott has demonstrated his commitment to service since the time he earned his Eagle Scout. He has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, the Center for Family & Child Enrichment, and the Homeless Assistance Center of Miami. Scott graduated with a B.S. in Political Science from Florida State in 2004 and holds an MBA and J.D. from the University of Miami. Scott and his wife, Lindsay, along with daughters Eleanor and Amelia Fuhrman live in South Miami.

The 27th Congressional District is considered to be one of the most competitive in the nation and is a top target of national democrats to win in 2018. Democrats outnumber Republicans by over 3% and President Trump – whose policies will be on the ballot – lost the district by 20 points.
